The student dormitories of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland, are located in three cities in the Silesian Voivodeship. Without exception, every room has access to broadband internet, and ongoing modernisation work is aimed at ensuring a highly comfortable living environment for students.

General information

Accommodation in student dormitories in Katowice has been finalized, but those who wish to apply for a place in a student dormitory during the academic year are requested to contact the selected student dormitory directly.

Applications for a place in a student dormitory for the coming academic year can be submitted from May 1^st to the Administration of the relevant student dormitory or electronically to the following addresses: dsligota@sum.edu.pl or bursa@sum.edu.pl.

Applications for accomodation in the dormitory are submitted on the following dates:

Stage I – by July 15^th this year

Stage II – by August 14^th this year

The results concerning granting or refusal of a place in the dormitory will be published on the University’s website on the following dates:

Description and prices

Student Dormitory No. 1 is located on the campus of the University in Katowice-Ligota at 12a Medyków street and has:

128 rooms with internet access grouped into 64 segments. Each segment has 2 rooms and a bathroom equipped with a shower, washbasin and toilet,
2 rooms for people with disabilities with a kitchen and bathroom,
4 communal kitchens equipped with an oven and electric hobs,
4 laundry rooms,
4 quiet study rooms,
a common room – a place for studying, resting and meetings.

Student Dormitory No. 2 is located on the campus of the University in Katowice-Ligota at 12b Medyków street and has:

128 rooms with internet access grouped into 64 segments. Each segment has 2 rooms and a bathroom equipped with a shower, washbasin and toilet (18 segments have a washbasin and bathtub),
4 shared kitchens equipped with an oven and electric hobs,
3 laundry rooms,
3 quiet study rooms,
Relaxation area – a place for studying, resting and meetings.

Student Dormitories No. 1 and 2 are mainly occupied by students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice and the Faculty of Health Sciences in Katowice.

Student Dormitory No. 4 is located in Katowice-Ligota at 26 Medyków street and has:

98 single rooms, each with a kitchenette and bathroom equipped with a washbasin, shower or bathtub, and toilet. Each room has internet access,

3 public laundries.

Student Dormitories No. 3 and 4 are mainly occupied by medical students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice who study in English.

Murckowski Forest – a large forest complex, ideal for running and cycling.
Dolina Trzech Stawów (Three Ponds Valley) – a popular recreational area (approx. 10–15 minutes by car).

Libero Shopping Centre – shops, restaurants, cinema (a few minutes by car).
Local shops, pharmacies, bakeries and restaurants in the Ligota district.

The price per night for ŚUM students using accommodation in vacant rooms is 1/30 of the monthly price for a place in a room according to the price list for ŚUM students.

Description and prices

Student Dormitory No. 1 is located on the campus of the University in Zabrze-Rokitnica at 19 Jordana Street and has:

87 rooms with internet access grouped into 39 segments. Each segment has 2 or 3 rooms and a bathroom,
communal kitchens (2 per floor) equipped with refrigerators and electric stoves with ovens,
2 laundry rooms,
4 quiet study rooms,
TV room.

Student Dormitory No. 1 is for students of medicine, dentistry (including those studying in English) and emergency medicine at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, as well as public health and dietetics at the Faculty of Public Health in Bytom.

Student Dormitory No. 3 is located in Zabrze at 42 M. Curie-Skłodowska Street and has:

80 rooms (16.00 m2) with internet access,
shared sanitary facilities (2 per floor),
shared kitchens (2 per floor) equipped with refrigerators, electric stoves with ovens and, in part, dishwashers,
a relax zone, i.e. a place for studying, resting and meeting,

Student Dormitory No. 5 is located in Zabrze at 44 M. Curie-Skłodowska Street and has:

81 rooms (16.00 m2) with internet access, including 1 room with a higher standard,

shared kitchens (2 per floor) equipped with refrigerators, electric cookers with ovens and, in part, dishwashers,
a room with a table tennis table, billiards and a foosball table

Near Student Dormitory No. 3 and Student Dormitory No. 5, there is, among others, the Silesian Centre for Heart Diseases – Śląskie Centrum Chorób Serca, Multikino cinema and the House of Music and Dance – Dom Muzyki i Tańca.

The Student Dormitory in Sosnowiec, at 30 Ostrogórska street, comprises two four-story buildings, which house:

80 student rooms (15,60 m²), fitted with built-in wardrobes and fixed furniture; each room has a washbasin (hot and cold water),
2 TV lounges,
3 quiet study rooms,
communal sanitary facilities (2 per floor) with shower cubicles and toilet cabins,
communal kitchens (2 per floor) equipped with fridges, electric hobs and ovens, and microwaves,
communal laundry and drying rooms equipped with washing machines and tumble dryers (1 per floor),
gym,
tennis table,
library.

Building No. 2:

43 student rooms (15,60 m²), fitted with built-in wardrobes and fixed furniture; each room has a washbasin (hot and cold water),
1 quiet study room,
communal bathrooms (1 per floor) with shower cubicles and toilet cabins,
communal kitchens (1 per floor) equipped with fridges, electric hobs and ovens, and microwaves,
communal laundry and drying room equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer,
Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Additionally:

The Student Dormitory of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Sosnowiec offers guest rooms depending on the availability.
Near the student dormitory, you will find, amongst other things: Municipal Hospital No. 1, Sosnowiec City Hall, the Social Insurance Institution, a theatre, a cinema and a shopping centre.

The rooms offer unlimited internet access. Residents of the dormitory are provided with bed linen (duvet covers, pillowcases, sheets, duvets, and pillows).

In accordance with the Rector’s Ordinance, the price list is as follows:
