Medical University of Silesia in Katowice received granting from National Academic Exchange Agency for processing the Multidimensional support for SUM in the field of providing high quality services for students and foreign management (Welcome to SUM) project under the Welcome to Poland Programme – Raising the competences of academic staff and the institution’s potential in accepting people from abroad – Welcome to Poland. The project is co-financed from the European Social Fund sources under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development (non-competitive project entitled “Raising the competences of academic staff and the institution’s potential in accepting people from abroad” processed under the action specified in the application for co-financing the project No. POWR.03.03.00-00-PN14/18).
Among others the Project envisages processing Polish language course for foreign and Erasmus+ students of Medical University of Silesia studying in English language.
It is envisaged also to process General Polish Language Course on a beginner and/or intermediate level. Moreover, students of medicine will have a chance to participate in a Professional Polish Language Course preparing students for passing the Polish Medical Final Examination.
Within the Project there will be created mobile app for Android system and for IOS system, helping foreign students to move between the buildings of University ( f. ex. Rector’s Office, Dean’s Offices, Library, Centers for Medical Simulations in Katowice and Zabrze, Departments, organizational entities), Faculty campuses, Clinical Hospitals, around the city and neighbouring cities. The app will help in finding a way to chosen University point or to specific academic teacher. The app will also show any near tourist attractions, parks, theatres and restaurants.
All about General Polish Language
General Polish Language Course under the Project „Multidimensional support for SUM in the field of providing high quality services for students and foreign management (Welcome to SUM)”.

WHEN?
The course will be conducted in academic year 2019/2020 – the classes starts after the procedure of choosing the external entity will be finished. The classes will end no later than 10th of June.
Participants will attend 30 meetings, 1 to 2 times a week. 1 meeting will last 90 minutes.
The classes will be conducted beside didactic hours. It is planned to organize them in the afternoons, from Mondays to Fridays – however, there might be a single occurrence that classes will take place through weekend.
WHERE?
We plan to conduct the course in locations down below:
- Katowice – Ligota – in the classrooms from the University Campus (Faculty of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Education and Medical Simulation Center)
- Zabrze:
- Rokitnica – in the classrooms from the Faculty of Medical Sciences Or,
- Zabrze – Centrum – in the classrooms from Faculty of Medical Sciences or from Education and Medical Simulation Center)
Attention!
In the recruitment form you have declared the chosen location. We will try to put you into the chosen one, but creating this particular group will depend from the number of other interested participants.
WHO CAN APPLY?
You can join the Project and be the participant if:
- you are a foreigner (you don’t have Polish citizentship)
- you are studying at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice (SUM) in English language or you are studying temporarily at the SUM due to your participation in the Erasmus+ Exchange programme in the academic year 2019/2020 for 2 semesters.
- you don’t know Polish language or you have some basic knowledge
- you have dispotion and time to participate in the course until the end of academic year, which is 10th of June 2020.
Remember!
After submitting recruitment forms and enrolling for course, you will become the participant of the project co-financed by EU, which means that the course will be free for you but simultaneously you are obliged to attend classes until June 2020.
Please make a responsible decision – learn Polish language with us and at the end you will be granted with a certificate confirming the time spent on education :)
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FROM THE PARTICIPATION IN THE COURSE?
- thanks to 30 intensive meetings with Polish language, where each will last 90 minutes, you will learn Polish culture, traditions, vocabulary and how to communicate in this language, so it could help you in functioning at our University,
- participation in the course is free – during classes you will receive materials to learn f. ex. book copies or other material copies. We do not cover the cost of buying notebooks or transport expenses,
- after 30 meetings you will be granted with a certificate of course completion,
- you will spend the time nicely and meet the students from all over the world who also study at SUM.
WHAT ARE YOUR DUTIES?
- to attend classes during the whole course (until June 2020). You will need to sign yourself on attendance list at each meeting,
- to participate actively during classes and to prepare before them… but that should be a pleasant thing :)
- in case of absence during classes, you will need to catch up all the missing material.

- Teachers will speak in English and Polish language

In order to participate in this course you are required to have good command of Polish language. That’s why you should precisely and truthfully specify your knowledge in the recruitment form (point 10 of the Recruitment form).
